NEW STUDENTS
Many people worry that they are not “good enough” for yoga.
We want you to know that everyone is welcome in our studio. We don’t care if you’ve never, ever stepped foot in a yoga studio before. We don’t care if you can’t touch your toes. We don’t care if you feel too fat, or too out of shape, or if you have no balance! We only expect you to come as you are. We truly believe that everyone can benefit from yoga.
We promise to walk you through where to put your shoes and how to place your mat, and we will help you choose the right class to get started. Your first class may be harder than you think, but don’t give up! Give your body some time to adjust to all of the new things you are challenging it to do. Doing yoga correctly means paying attention to your breath and your body. It doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing, only you.
We always suggest that our new students start with a introductory or beginners class*. This will help you establish a good foundation to build your practice. Keep coming back. When you’re new to anything there will be moments of frustration and discomfort. Despite what you might think, yoga is hard work. It can be exhausting — physically, mentally and emotionally. At times you will want to throw up your hands and quit. Don’t. This is where the healing happens. Breathe into it, and come back tomorrow. You’ll be glad you did.
*Suggested classes for beginning yoga students are Community, Gentle, Yoga as Medicine, and Yin Yoga. Mats are available for you to use.
STUDIO ETIQUETTE
Scents:
Please do not wear perfume or scented lotions in the studio. Many students are sensitive to strong smells and may have allergies or migraines as a result.
Parking:
Please park mindfully. Parking is available for students in the front, back and along the side street of the studio. When parking on the side street please park completely off the road and on the grass. The Murrells Inlet Fire Department uses this street to get to and from the station. Additional parking is available off-site just north of the studio at The South Strand Assembly of God.
Registration:
Sign up for classes in advance. This confirms your spot in class and eases congestion at the front desk. To sign up, visit our schedule page or download the Mindbody Online App to your phone.
If you cannot make it to a class that you have reserved please cancel your reservation so the space is available for another student.
Getting to class:
Please enter the practice room as quietly as possible. Our intention is for our space to be a safe haven for all. Many students will be settling to their space with some gentle movements, breathing and meditation.
Please silence your cell phone. Remove shoes and place in provided cubbies.
Join us in being environmentally conscious:
Inlet Yoga is a green studio. We provide a filtered water bottle filling station. If you choose to bring water into the studio, please make sure that your container has a secure lid that closes completely to prevent spills and slipping on the floor.
